An introductary art class, taught by practicing artist and art instructor, Baris Gokturk.  The class focuses on exploring several art mediums (collage, drawing, and painting) while deepening connections to one another.

Using a combined media approach (drawing, painting, collage, soft sculpture, digital media) and a step by step, multi-layered process, the JCC Connections Art Class provides a creative environment for the students to express themselves and interact with each other. The main goal of the curriculum is to enable students to learn not just the fundamentals of art making as a vessel of creative expression but also how to look at and discuss art works of their peers as a collective group. The program aims to nurture the creative individual expression of each student within a peer support system and group interaction.

To provide such educational combination the class follows an organic set of goals for each project varying for each student based on warm up/hang out sessions and direct conversation with the student exploring preferences and opinions within the overall project’s framework.

Each semester focus on a particular topic that is broken down to several interconnected projects. The projects are designed to connect the self to world at large. Each project has a personal component covering the self and an exponential component covering what is outside. Photography, collage and drawing is the designated media based on the ability and interest of each student.
